One of the best ways to remain healthy is to exercise on a regular basis. However, regularly does not mean that you exercise daily. According to the health experts, you should work out on at least four days a week. Working four to five days a week gives body the time to gain the benefits of exercise as well as time to recuperate.

So, why should you exercise regularly? There are many benefits to be obtained from a regular fitness plan, some of which are:

- Exercise can increase your self-esteem! Not only you look better with toned muscles but you will also find that the discipline you maintain during workouts will spill to other areas of your daily life.

- Regular workout is always associated with proper nutritional diet; otherwise, you will not be able to reap the benefits. Once you combine proper diet with timed exercising, there will be a big boost to the energy level, courtesy loss of fat, increase in stamina, and toning of muscles.

- Your overall strength and stamina level will increase with any form of exercising; and if you are into lightweight (or moderate weight) training then you will see noticeable difference in your strength and tolerance level.

– Regular exercise keeps the blood pressure and cholesterol level in check and greatly reduces the risk of a heart attack.

- The risk of Osteoporosis (i.e., abnormal loss of bony tissue resulting in fragile porous bones attributable to a lack of calcium; most common in postmenopausal women) can be curtailed by weight training. Sometimes, proper training can even help in restoring the bony tissues.

One of the questions expectant women always ask is, “is it healthy to exercise during pregnancy?” Theoretically, exercise can help you in every aspect of your lives; however, during pregnancy you physically might not be in the right frame to exercise. Your body will feel tired, and at times will become slow so, what should you do?

Firstly, you have to consult with your doctor. Workouts during pregnancy are markedly different from the exercises you do normally. The routine will also depend on the stage of your pregnancy.
What are the benefits?

- Exercise is beneficial for both the mother and the baby. It will help you to cope with certain issues like backaches (by strengthening the muscles of your butt, back and thighs); constipation (by increasing metabolism); reducing wear and tear of joints, which occurs due to the hormonal change during pregnancy; and facilitates sleep (by reducing stress level).

- It will increase the blood flow in your body (resulting in radiant skin).

- During pregnancy, regular exercise will help you in increasing the strength of your muscles. Strong muscles ease the process of labour and delivery of the child.

- It is normal for the body to gain fat in time of pregnancy. Exercising will prevent you from gaining excess fat. However, remember, the objective of exercising during pregnancy is to remain fit and not to lose weight.
